YAHOO:
Netizens have expressed their “disappointment” over a Palace official who was caught buying pirated DVDs and President Benigno Aquino III’s attempt to defend him.
According to an Inquirer report on Wednesday, Ronald Llamas, presidential adviser on political affairs, was caught Monday night buying a stack of pirated DVDs worth P2,000 at a mall in Quezon City.
As of this writing, “Llamas” has been trending locally on Twitter. Netizens said Llamas must be more responsible with his actions as a public official.
‘Be careful’
Twitter user mychix88 said, “Llamas must bear in mind that he is a public servant. Any issues on him will affect the president/administration.”
“As for Llamas, he should have been more careful,” user jacjimeno said.
User DeanSulutan also pointed out, “Should he not set an example too?”
Aquino hit, too
Netizens also blasted Aquino for “disregarding” the issue and “defending” Llamas once again.
A separate Inquirer report quoted Aquino as saying, “You know that we have so many problems. That DVD (issue) is kind of low on our priorities.”
He said the photo of Llamas he saw in the Inquirer appeared to show him “just passing by.” He added, “I really do not know if these were DVDs—or I assume they are DVDs.” The president said that he would first ask Llamas for his side of the story.
‘PNoy can’t discipline his staff’
Twitter user karlabawww said, “PNoy needs to have a decision here. This is not the first time Llamas has been tied with controversy. As stern as he is in pursuing PGMA because she allegedly violated the law, he is crumbling in disciplining his own disciples.”
User timidshysee noted, “kung ang no wang-wang ginawang policy sa lahat, bakit wala sa priority niya si llamas na dalawang beses n nagkamali? is he creating an untouchable inner circle?”
In October last year, Llamas, who is known to frequent firing ranges with Aquino, figured in a controversy when a high-power assault rifle was discovered inside his SUV, which his aides tried to retrieve as television cameras rolled.
‘Llamas’ now a verb
Strictly speaking, Llamas did not violate the country’s antipiracy law which imposes no penalty on the customer. Only those engaged in the manufacturing and selling of pirated goods can be punished, the law states.
“Let those who have never bought or watched a movie from a pirated DVD cast the 1st stone on Ronald Llamas,” Twitter user findingjemo said.
On a lighter note, user mangpandoy said, “PNoy Vocabulary 101: Llamas. "Na-Llamas ka na ba?"="Have you ever been caught carrying AK47s in your car or buying pirated DVDs?”
